Today’s programme at Longines FEI WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championship for Young Horses included the small final for the five-year-old horses. The by C.W. van Baalen bred KWPN horse Maddox Mart (Hennessy x Bordeaux 28) grabbed the lead with Jessica Lynn Thomas (SWE). The black stallion of Gestüt Schafhof was less tense than the first day and was awarded an 8.72 on average, highlight being the 9.5 for the trot.
The Oldenburg-bred Galleria’s Summerville OLD (Sezuan 2 x Diamond Hit) of Hanwha Hotels & Resorts Co. Ltd) followed in second place. Ridden by Manuel Dominguez Bernal (ESP) the by ZG Scherbring GbR bred gelding received an 8.9 for the trot and a total score of 8.48. The third rank was claimed by the Oldenburger Feurfunke OLD (Franziskus 15 x Foundation 2) that was bred by ZG Scherbring GbR. Owner Mathis Goerens (LUX) piloted the chestnut gelding to a 9.0 for his trot and a total score of 8.44.
Better
The top-three secured a sport in the tomorrow’s final as they join the qualification’s best thirteen horses. Chairman of the jury Henning Lehrman noticed that many combinations performed a lot better than yesterday: “We have seen many great horses today. The winner is a super horse. Yesterday, he was a tad too enthusiastic, but today he was more resigned and showed off his three great gaits.”
More confidence
Maddox Marts rider explains the difference between the qualification and today’s performance. “Yesterday, I could not relax in the ten-minute-ring. I had to ride with the brakes on to keep him with me. Luckily, he felt better today. He was focused, super nice to ride and had a lot more confidence”, tells Thomas. “He could do even better, but he is young and a breeding stallion so when the hormones come to play, it can also go a lot worse very quickly”, she laughs. “I just hope his rider won’t make any mistakes tomorrow.”
